    Responsive compassionate in-home dementia care

I'm very pleased with this agency - very good, responsive, compassionate caregivers who handled bathing, dressing, meals, laundry and companionship, often on short notice. Management was communicative and helpful, the dementia education was invaluable, and I would definitely use them again.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression Families describe Assisting Hands Columbus Home Care as an agency that delivers warm, capable in-home care with an emphasis on compassionate, person-centered interactions. Reviewers frequently highlight caregivers who provide both personal-care assistance (bathing, dressing, meal support) and household help (laundry, chores), and many note that caregivers develop strong rapport with clients and act as reassuring companions for families. Caregiver quality and training Caregivers are repeatedly characterized as attentive, patient and skilled. Several accounts reference above-and-beyond behavior and dedicated aides who help with mobility, appointments and daily living tasks. The agency’s offerings of dementia education and free nursing supervision were singled out as meaningful clinical supports; families described these services as helpful for understanding communication strategies and tailoring care to cognitive needs. Office communication and management The office team and management receive consistent praise for responsiveness and clear communication. Reviewers described quick assessments, prompt placement of aides, helpful scheduling support and staff who are easy to reach by phone. Named staff were often noted as available and reassuring, and the agency’s ability to field last-minute requests and same-evening scheduling was a frequent operational strength. Reliability and scheduling Many families reported reliable short-notice coverage and flexible scheduling options, including 24-hour care when needed. At the same time, there are recurring operational patterns worth noting: a number of families experienced turnover or frequent changes in assigned caregivers, and some described a period of adjustment after initial placement while a good match was found. These items suggest variability in assignment continuity during handoffs or early weeks of service. Concerns and risk areas A serious individual allegation of disrespectful caregiver conduct appeared in the feedback; while this appears to be an isolated claim within an otherwise positive set of experiences, it highlights the importance of asking about the agency’s conduct policies, incident reporting and staff supervision during intake. More broadly, prospective clients should be aware of possible onboarding and match-adjustment delays and the potential for changing assignments until a stable caregiving match is established. Value and next steps for families Families generally framed the service as providing good practical and clinical value because of the combination of attentive caregivers, flexible scheduling and added clinical supports (dementia education, nursing oversight). For prospective clients, recommended questions at intake include how the agency manages continuity of care, what procedures are in place for addressing conduct concerns, how quickly replacement caregivers are provided, and what orientation or match-testing is used to minimize initial adjustment periods. Overall, the pattern of feedback indicates a provider with strong strengths in caregiver warmth, responsiveness and clinical education, tempered by occasional operational continuity and conduct-related risks that are reasonable to clarify up front.
